Placement and Advisory Exams

You may be required to take placement exams before registering for classes. If you intend to take mathematics in your first quarter, and have not yet taken college-level math classes equivalent to UCR’s Math 5 or higher with a grade of C- or better, you will need to take the Math Placement Exam. For more information, please check with your department’s academic advisor or your college’s Student Academic Affairs Office.

For general questions about placement examinations for foreign language courses, please contact Dawn Whelchel at 951-827-1421 or dawn.whelchel@ucr.edu

For general questions about placement exams, please visit the Placement Exams website.

Pre-Orientation Tutorial

The Pre-Orienation Tutorial provides helpful tips about registering online and getting the classes you want. Taking the Pre-Orientation Tutorial is strongly recommended, because UCR’s online course registration system will be different than anything you have probably used before.

Travel Accommodations

Make sure your travel arrangements allow you to arrive prior to the 8:00 a.m. check-in and remain on UCR’s campus until
5:30 pm on the day of your Orientation session. If travel plans necessitate otherwise, contact our office in advance.

All of it is wedged into a 36-page, full-color guide brimming with department locations, phone numbers and email addresses so you’ll always know where to go and who to talk to when you have a question or concern.
